Vintage caravan exhibit almost here
A vintage caravan exhibit is set to roll into Bill Richardson Transport World this winter.
From toasting marshmallows around the fire, to the first time you got up on the waterskis and picnic baskets laden with bacon and egg pie, everybody’s got a nostalgic Kiwi camping story with their whānau.
Kiwi Camping Adventures will feature a treasure-trove of vintage caravans and memorabilia that harks back to yesterday. It will open at the Invercargill museum – the largest private automotive collection of its kind in the world – on Good Friday.
Transport World executive director Joc O’Donnell says she is looking forward to welcoming the vintage caravan display to the collection. The vehicles that will make up the display are on temporary loan from owners throughout the deep south, she says.
“We’re really pleased that so many people were willing to open their garage doors to Bill Richardson Transport World, and allow us to share their vehicles with a wider audience,” she says.
“I’ve always wanted to do a vintage caravan exhibit here in the museum: I think they really tap into people’s sense of nostalgia. They remind us of family holidays when we were kids, and of great memories we share with our loved ones.
“That’s why we are so grateful to our owners for allowing us to display their caravans here: we know their vehicles are really treasured possessions, and hold a lot of great stories.”
Get ready to see some retro treasures normally tucked away: the Bill Richardson Transport World vintage caravan display will bring a bevvy of unique, beautifully-adorned, and vintage cool vehicles to the collection.
Kiwi Camping Adventures will be on display at Bill Richardson Transport World from Friday 7 April – Thursday August 31.
