1948 Ariel Square Four 4H

1948 Ariel Square Four 4H

The original 1,000cc Ariel engine design with cast iron cylinder barrels and head remained in production until it was superseded in 1949 by an all-alloy model. This example is a 4H model, a more basic model than the 4G that was produced between 1936 and 1948. It was acquired by Nelson's NZ Classic Motorcycles collection via MidAmerica Auctions in 2009, from the original owner who purchased it new in 1948 and rode it every day for many years. It has had a complete restoration including rebuilding the engine, plungers, wheels and magneto. It was then acquired by Transport World for their Classic Motorcycle Mecca collection in May 2016.
