Last run in 2004 as part of the national championship, Rally Southland was, in its day, one of the most adventurous rounds of the New Zealand Rally Championship. After a 20-year absence, the rally is back in full force. Now called the Southern Lights Rally, competitors and fans will again embrace some of Southland's most famous gravel rally stages on 21-22 June 2024.

Ceremonial Start at Bill Richardson Transport World

On Friday, June 21, the teams will start from inside Bill Richardson Transport World, Invercargill, with a publicity-based Ceremonial Start before heading off into the darkness to tackle the legendary Pebbly Hills.

Transport World will be open to spectators from 4 pm, with the Ceremonial Start taking place from 5-6 pm in Bill's Shed.

On Saturday morning, 22 June, the teams will set off early for a full day on some of the best gravel roads in the country. With only two full forest stages across the whole event, fans will enjoy seeing the best in New Zealand maneuver their cars around the fast, flowing Southland county stages, with some fantastic spectator viewing areas available.
