Weddings at Bill Richardson Transport World

3rd May 2018

Newlyweds Tess and Robert Butler had their wedding ceremony at The Abbey in Tussock Creek, then headed to Bill Richardson Transport World along with 100 friends and family to celebrate.  Guests at the reception were treated to the delectable cuisine of Mash Catering and the talents of local band Old School, while Jordan from Nostalgic Photography captured lifelong memories through her stunning photos.

Then, once friends from afar had departed, the honeymoon was over and the dress was at the dry cleaners, we checked in with Tess Butler to reflect on the best day of her life.

When did you know you’d found your ideal venue?
As soon as we found out we could celebrate in Bill’s Shed amongst the classic vehicles we didn’t need to look anywhere else! It just felt perfect and we loved that it offered our guests a wee taste of the museum too.

Aside from the surroundings, what did you enjoy most about the venue?
Working with a professional events team was a major bonus.  They were fantastic and helped us through everything, step by step. [Event Manager] Adam went out of his way to make sure everything was exactly as we imagined it and [Event Coordinator] Maree had things running like clockwork.

What details were most important to you for the big day?
Being able to include lots of personal touches.  Our guests were able to take lots of polaroid photos and the Texaco tanker featured in more than a few!  We also had a dessert table with the churros from Mash Catering that went down a treat.

What was the biggest crowd hit?
The food – it was amazing!  We wanted a relaxed atmosphere so we had canapés rather than a sit-down meal.  Rachel and her team made sure everyone was well looked after, including the kids who all loved their special meals.

What was your overall highlight?
The fact that everything just seemed to fall into place and we were able to have a truly wonderful time, and everyone up dancing to the band totally topped off a great day.

Any regrets?
The only regret we have is that we didn’t snatch up more of the food ourselves!  We were pretty busy catching up with everyone but that’s what it’s all about too!

What advice would you give someone looking at Transport World as a venue?
Go for it! It was a privilege to be able to use such a unique venue and to work alongside the event staff.  It will always be a special place for our family.
