Classic Car Profile: The 1961 Mercedes Benz 220 SB
For car enthusiasts, few names evoke elegance like the 1961 Mercedes Benz 220 SB. We're excited to feature this classic in our collection, donated by Bill and June Henderson from Dunedin. This vehicle has been part of the Henderson family since 1964.
Originally owned by kiwi-born Winston Prattley, the car began its journey as a tourist delivery in Germany in 1961. After touring Europe for 7,000 miles, Prattley returned the car to Mercedes in Stuttgart in 1962 for a conversion from left-hand drive to right-hand drive and from a column gear shift to a floor-mounted one. It was then shipped to New Zealand and sold to George Henderson in 1964.
Though it remains unrestored, our workshop team has carefully preserved its charm with minor touch-ups. This Mercedes invites you to step back into a golden era of motoring.
