Cherished memories: Shona Richardson and Joc O'Donnell remember Bill Richardson
Invercargill transport entrepreneur Bill Richardson loved trucks: so much so, that he made them not only his life’s work but his hobby too.
Bill Richardson bought the first vintage truck that would one day evolve into an astonishing collection back in 1967. He’d long held a dream to buy, and restore, his grandfather’s 1933 International truck and so when he spotted it, he snapped it up. But Bill never would have dreamed that his first purchase would one day turn into a museum collection named in his honour. Many people know about Bill’s love for trucks – but fewer know the stories behind this incredible array of vehicles.
To remember Bill and celebrate what would have been his milestone 80th birthday, the Transport World team sat down with Bill’s wife Shona Richardson and daughter Joc O’Donnell (creator of the Transport World tourism hub) to talk about some of their favourites memories of the man our collection is named for.
