Once upon a time, while living in London on her OE (or ‘overseas experience’ – a Kiwi rite of passage) a young Joc went travelling around Europe with fellow Invercargillite Scott O’Donnell. Their vehicle of choice? A Volkswagen Kombi, of course.
That was the start of a lifelong love of everything Volkswagen Kombi for Joc O’Donnell. One of the most heart-warming aspects of the Bill Richardson Transport World collection is its evolution – what began as Bill Richardson’s stellar collection of classic trucks has since been infused to reflect the automotive passions of his wider family. And Joc is the first to admit – she’s got a thing for the nostalgic Volkswagen Kombi. About a dozen call our collection home.
Featuring a world-class array of Kombis – such as a renovated, extremely rare 1954 barn-door as well as a 1974 Westfalia camper that has garnered worldwide accolades, and one of the last-ever Kombis to roll off the production line (a 2013 model) – our display is guaranteed to make enthusiasts and casual admirers alike smile.
(The 1974 Volkswagen Kombi won the Best Original title at the 2005 Volksworld Show and also appeared in the first issue of VW Camper & Bus. It won the SSVC’s Brighton Breeze the same year.)
There’s just something special about Volkswagen Kombis. Once you’ve seen our collection, we think you’ll agree.
“What a gem, this is a must see if in Invercargill. I would go as far to say it is worth traveling here for... The collection far exceeded my expectations and has amazing detail plus a wide variety of vehicles...”Isaac Heron
